Donor Shows His Gratitude by Giving Back

Donald TiltonDonald Tilton, DO graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1969 and followed with a rotating internship at Delaware Valley Hospital in Bristol, Pennsylvania in 1970. He pursued a general radiology residency at the Wilmington Medical Center (now Christiana Care) from 1970 to 1972 and developed an interest in radiation therapy, transferring to complete a radiation therapy residency at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia in 1974.

Returning to the Wilmington Medical Center in 1974, Dr. Tilton practiced radiation therapy until 2003; he then worked part-time doing locums relief in radiation therapy at several hospitals in Delaware, until retiring in 2009.

Dr. Tilton was board certified in Radiation Therapy by the American Board of Radiology in 1975 and was elected a Fellow of The American College of Radiology in 1996 and a Fellow of The American College of Radiation Oncology in 2001.

Having been a long time contributor to PCOM, Dr. Tilton sought a way to show his gratitude to PCOM for the opportunity it afforded him and for his subsequent post-graduate success. When the time came for him to take the required minimum distribution from his IRA, he, along with his wife, Angela, took those dollars and created the Donald C. Tilton, DO '69, FACR, FACRO and Angela Steele-Tilton, RN, MSN Endowed Scholarship.

Dr. Tilton created this scholarship to honor the memory of Dr. Thomas Rowland, the fourth president of PCOM, and to assist students with financial need. Dr. Rowland was the registrar at PCOM when Dr. Tilton applied, and though he was accepted at two other osteopathic medical schools, Dr. Tilton chose PCOM.
